Diversity and inclusivity statement

The Embodiment Conference’s goal is to make embodied wisdom accessible to the world. Our vision is to reach the broadest audience, no matter their wealth, location, language and practice background.

We want to create an environment within the conference that invites participation from people of all races, social or economic status, ethnicities, genders, ages, abilities, religions, and sexual orientation free from discrimination, patronisation or harassment.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion are central to the goals of the Embodiment Conference. However, as a global conference our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion may not be that of one singular perspective, but aims to integrate many different perspectives on the topic.

  • Equality at its heart is about removing barriers, biases, and obstacles that impede equal access. We are emphasising equality of opportunity.
  • Diversity is about progressing  towards a community and conference population that reflects our global Embodiment community and the diversity of society on various levels.
  • Inclusion is about creating a conference program and environment that is free from discrimination, where every participant is welcome, included and respected.

In order to promote the above goals of equality, diversity, and inclusion, TEC2020 aims for

  • Participant diversity – making the conference available to attendees as broadly as possible, including the translation of sessions into different languages in order to increase accessibility of content.
  • Speaker diversity – recruiting speakers and panelists from diverse populations, backgrounds, and practice areas within Embodiment to increase diversity in thinking and perspective. We recognize that speakers and panelists will come representing intersectional identities. In our recruitment processes, we will seek to identity the richness of what Embodiment practitioners bring in their being and in their practice(s). We also acknowledge that in a global outreach, recruited speakers may not always be able to speak at the conference. We acknowledge the power inherent in the speaker selection process so are looking at the following strategies to engage with Embodiment practitioners as inclusively as possible. We are actively seeking to increase the diversity of our participants, speakers, and sponsors through our call for speakers and submission process and through dialogue with the larger communities we serve.

This is an ongoing process. We have a diversity and inclusion manager whose role is focused on strategy and implementation support for equality, diversity and inclusion goals of the conference. WE also added a track for peace and social change as an approach to embodiment to the conference.

We are working together on our community engagement and conference track management processes to achieve these goals for the conference. This is a co-creative process. Here are some ways you can help us build a more diverse conference experience:

  • Recommend appropriate speakers and/or panelists (see requirements soon) to the conference team by sending an email to info@theembodimentconference.com
  • Be Active! Suggest to potential speakers that they submit a proposal during the “Call for Speakers” conference phases (next application round starts in January 2020)
  • Share your best practices in order to increase inclusion of marginalised groups at TEC2020 by sending us an email at info@theembodimentconference.com

We value diversity in the communities we bring together, and we welcome your contributions to bringing balanced representation of the richness of our collective human experience.
